If you’ve fallen onto the hipster foodie band wagon and love to indulge in some toast with avocado spread on top, your in luck! Though this is a healthy option for obvious reason, the American Heart Association has officially backed it up with some research. According to their findings eating an entire avocado every day can dramatically improve heart health! The study involved 45 overweight, yet healthy adults. Over the course of two weeks their average american carb heavy and saturated fat diet was monitored. Then the following 5 weeks their diet was switched to one of two diets: a low fat (Avocado) or moderate fat diet(like sunflower and canola oil) for 5 weeks.
As expected the once the diet switched to the 5 week low or moderate diet, all participants cholesterol levels decreased, but what was a suprise was how much healthier the avocado eaters got. Their LDL Cholesterol dropped by more than 13 points, while the moderate fat dieters LDL cholesterol only dropped on average of 8. Other great properties of avocado to your health are the fatty acids, fiber, and plant sterols that are great for your overall heart health!
