When I think of high-end luxury goods I often think of highfalutin and unnecessarily overpriced junk, but there a handful of high luxury brands who pride themselves on the dedicated amount of time and quality into their pieces. Take for instance Gucci who sent a BIG message to the bootleggers of America by slapping a HUGE lawsuit on them.
The Italian brand filed a lawsuit back in may against several organizations that were apart of a massive online counterfeiting conspiracy. There a multitude of sites that sell Gucci products, but the number of them that sell genuine and authentic Gucci merchandise are far and few between. Filed with the U.S. district court for the Southern District of Florida, the suit was for trademark counterfeiting and cybersquatting calling for the 155 domain names used in the counterfeiting operation. In the end they won a WHOPPING $144.2 million!
“We are extremely pleased that the court clearly understood the dangers to consumers posed by online counterfeiting organizations and has sent a strong message that counterfeiters can expect to receive severe sanctions when caught,” said Patrizio di Marco, Gucci’s president and chief executive officer.
