So like with most beauty topics one’s personal journey is always different from the next. One of my more exhausting issues is managing my hair. I have spent years growing my hair out and finding out all of the things my hair loves and loathes. I can’t preach this enough, what works for one may work for some, but what works you might not work for me. There is a simple equation to have beautiful healthy hair. You really have to take the time to get to know your crown, and make it work the best way you can. Here are 5 things to know about my hair:
Guess what, bump all that black girls are afraid of water crap. My hair loves water. I might want to avoid the water if I’ve straightened out my hair, but when I wear my hair natural water is my hair’s best friend. In fact when my hair feels extremely dry, the first thing I think to do is wet my hair. A little water followed up with a heavy conditioner and oil to seal is the perfect 3 step combo!
2. Coconut Oil
I am sorry if you have not had the greatest experience with coconut oil, but I am apart of the bandwagon. Coconut oil is perfect for my entire body. I works wonders on my nail beds, skin, lashes, brows, and especially my hair! When I am wearing my real hair straight I massage my scalp every night before bed with a small dab of coconut oil and in the morning I massage my ends and edges with it.
3. Twist Outs
My hair Loathes twist outs with a passion. No matter how many times I have attempted to do a twist out I ended up with a hawt mess nest. I think my cure pattern just simply doesn’t agree with them. As an alternative braid outs are my hairs friend. A good braid out for me will last for a week or more!
4. Blow Dryers
I think the most dreadful part of wash day is the drying. My hair holds onto water for dear life. No matter if I blow dry my hair for an hour or a 10 hours my hair will forever still be wet. I have quickly learned that I cannot blow dry my hair right out the shower. I have to give it a few hours to air dry after a good t-shirt wringing (no I don’t use towels in my hair).
My hair loves loves loves silicone. Some of my favorite frizz prevention products are made up of silicone. I can wand curl my hair and know it will stay cute all day as long as I prep my hair with a silicone based product.
