So you have a proper beauty routine and stick to it? You do everything by the books? You probably haven’t a worry in the world when it comes to your skin. Well think again. You are probably committing several of the biggest skin sins out there. Find out below:
Washing Your Face Under the Showerhead
Though the warm water streaming down your face may feel relaxing, its not good for your skin, in fact its damaging. The water pressure is a bit too strong for your delicate face. Never let the water directly hit you in the face, as this causes microscopic abrasions. Always let the water run into you hands, and then wash over your face with a splash. Your skin will thank you later.
Using Your Clarisonic on the First Cleanse
Never use a cleansing device on your face first. Double cleansing your face is an awesome part of your regimen, but you must get the steps right. Your first cleanse should be with a gentle cleanser only using your hands first. A cleansing device could actually push the dirt further into your pores if it isn’t removed prior to usage.
Not Letting Your Layers Sink in
Your routine should be multifaceted with toners, serums, retinols, moisturizers, SPF, ect. If you don’t allow these products to do their jobs, and just simply rush through your routine it will all be a waste. You can’t just blend all of these things together and expect them to work to their full potential. It is important as you apply products to allow them to penetrate the skin fully before moving on to the next step. As a rule of thumb give each product anywhere from 5-10 min. to absorb.
Not Washing Your Hands Between Layers
While your waiting for each layer to penetrate your skin, you will probably find yourself multi-tasking and therefore touch other germ holding things such as a phone, computer, or simply other things in our closet. All of these surfaces contain germs that can completely ruin your treatment. Make sure you wash your hands between each layer to avoid this from happening.
Using Exfoliation as the Answer to All of Your Issues
Exfoliation is NOT always the answer. Though this is an important aspect to your weekly routine, overkill can literally KILL your skin. The scrubs, peels, and tools can damage your skins protective barrier. Next time you think you can exfoliate away a zit, stop. Exfoliation may actually be more harmful than good, as it tends to spread the issue around rather than target and remove it.
Washing Your Face Before You Wash Your Hair
You should ALWAYS wash your face last, especially if you like to wash your face and hair in the shower. Runoff from shampoo and conditioner can be detrimental to your skin care routine. Most haircare product contain synthetic oils and ingredients that clog your pores, and if your face isn’t cleansed after coming in contact with these things, your face is still dirty.
Only Treating Acne With Acne-Fighting Ingredients
When it comes down to it acne is simply just inflammation. One would think laying on all the acne fighting products you can squander up would be the best plausible solution, but its not! These products dry your skin out, and often create a situation where your skin will begin producing more oil than it needs and in turn counterproductively re-clogging its pores. Try a calming solution like aloe vera, vitamin C, or oatmeal. They work as anti-oxidants, while keeping the skin hydrated.
