Spring is finally here, and not only are you probably starting to do spring cleaning around your house, you should clean up your beauty regimen as well! Find out how I transition from winter to spring for skin thats beautiful year round!
Every beauty lover has an arsenal of products! Spring cleaning is the best time to re-visit some of these purchases and getting rid of what doesn’t work, and what is expired. No sense in keeping around things you tried and didn’t like, and it’s especially counter product to use products that are beyond their shelf life. Old cosmetics harbor a lot more than just no longer active formula, they house tons of bacteria.
Check the dates on your products. You may want to toss the following:
- Anything past the expiration date
- Products that appear dry or crusty
- Anything that has changed consistency, color, or smell
- Anything with an SPF older than one year
- Mascara older than three months
- Old, dirty make-up brushes and sponges
Prep Your Skin
The dry and brittle climate of winter can bring the worst out of your skin. It’s time to relinquish yourself of dry and flaky skin, and bring out its better side. A deep full body exfoliation is what I love to do! I emphasize the full body because most of the winter we are covered up, and don’t even pay attention to every inch of our deer skin. This is an opportunity to give your skin some muted needed TLC and attention.
Here’s is one of my favorite DIY home exfoliation remedies that will leave your skin feel smooth, soft, and ready for skirts and sandals:
- Mix 2 cups of brown sugar with 1 cup of olive oil
- Scrub the entire body using circular motions, and giving rough dry patches on the skin some extra rubbing
- Rinse and moisturize
For a deep cleansing facial mask to bring out your complexion and natural glow:
- 1 teaspoon plain yogurt
- 1 teaspoon honey
- ½ of an unripe papaya
- Mix the ingredients in a food processor or blender
- Apply to your face for 8 to10 minutes
- Rinse and moisturize
Time For A Change
Adjust your skin care routine to reflect the seasonal changes that come with spring:
- Lighter moisturizer
In the warmer months my skin is oilier, so I opt for a moisturizer that isn’t heavy, but gives my skin just the right amount of moisture. If you are in love with what you currently use, sometimes I have been able to use my winter moisturize year round if I mixed a bit of rose water with it.
The spring and summer calls for more exfoliation. My skin seems to need to be rubbed down more in the warmer months. It’s great because the exfoliation keeps my skin soft glowing.
- Lighten up
Lighter foundation and playful makeup colors! This is what spring/summer is all about. The warmer months means sun kissed skin, and therefore you don’t need to have a dark foundation that gives your skin the pigment you’ve lost in the winter. In order to look more clean and natural try finding a foundation that doesn’t add to much color to your beautiful face.
Though I recommend the use of sunscreen all year round, it is most imperative that you use it during the spring and summer months. You want to look young forever? Sunscreen is your magic potion!
